Zen Buttons are round designs, somewhat reminiscent of mandalas, that were originally created by Certified Zentangle Teacher (CZT) Marguerite Samama from the Netherlands. The designs are made with a combination of Zentangle® patterns, and are drawn on three nesting rings within a circle. Each ring is then shaded to give the circle a three-dimensional, button look. Hence the name. Beginning Zentanglers, or even those with no experience, can easily create beautiful results.
During class you’ll explore various fragment patterns and reticula (grid-like motifs) while drawing on a round Zentangle® tile called a Zendala. You’ll also apply highlights and shading, which are key to creating the dimensional button effect. This class’s Zen Button will be drawn in tones of sepia, balck, and white, but the concept is easy to translate and looks great using other colors. Stunning in any palette!
Instructor Annie Reiser is a Certified Zentangle® Teacher and botanical illustrator, and the class is being held in her home art studio.
